Using Assistants
Each AI assistant has different knowledge and capabilities based on how your admin configured it.
Starting a Chat with an Assistant
From the Assistants Page
- Go to Assistants in the sidebar
- Find the assistant you want
- Click "Start Chat"
- You're taken to a new chat with that assistant selected
From the Chat
- Click "New Chat"
- Select the assistant from the assistant picker
What Makes Each Assistant Different
Your admin configures each assistant with:
| Setting | What It Means for You |
|---|---|
| Knowledge access | Which documents and departments the assistant can search |
| Available tools | What actions it can perform (create tasks, search, etc.) |
| Personality | How it communicates (concise vs detailed, formal vs casual) |
| Specialization | What domain it's an expert in |
tip
If an assistant can't answer a question, it might not have access to the relevant documents. Try asking the general Arketic AI assistant instead, or ask your admin to update the assistant's knowledge access.
Common Assistant Types
| Assistant | Typical Capabilities |
|---|---|
| Arketic AI | General-purpose — searches all accessible documents, creates tasks, finds people |
| HR Assistant | Employee policies, org structure, recruitment, leave management |
| IT Support | Technical troubleshooting, software requests, IT procedures |
| Legal Assistant | Contract review, compliance questions, policy interpretation |
| Finance Assistant | Budget queries, expense policies, financial reports |
Your organization may have different or additional assistants.
Switching Assistants
If you're in a chat and want to talk to a different assistant:
- Start a new chat (clicking "New Chat" in the sidebar)
- Select the different assistant
- Your previous conversation is saved — you can always go back to it
info
Each conversation is tied to one assistant. You can't switch assistants mid-conversation.
Assistant vs Project Chats
| Feature | Assistant Chat | Project Chat |
|---|---|---|
| Assistant selection | You choose which assistant | Uses the project's default assistant |
| Context | Only this conversation's context | Shared context across all project conversations |
| Visibility | Private to you | Shared with project members |
| Best for | Quick questions, one-off tasks | Ongoing collaborative work |
Tips
- Match the assistant to the question — use the HR assistant for HR questions, not the general assistant
- Be clear about what you need — even specialized assistants work better with specific, detailed requests
- Try different assistants — if one doesn't give a good answer, another might have better access to the information you need
- Provide feedback — use the 👍/👎 buttons on responses to help improve assistant quality
